Truckee River Winery, established in 1989, is California’s highest and coldest winery. The winery started as a garage operation by a ski-loving couple and UC Davis graduates, who made great wine for their friends and family for 9 years in the Truckee/Tahoe community. With the help of their daughter and friends, they moved the winery to a two-story barn on the river, where they could produce 1000 cases annually.
In 2009, they opened a tasting room on Brockway Road and expanded production to 2,500 cases annually. Truckee River Winery is known throughout the area for producing high-quality vintages year after year, specializing in single vineyard varietals. In 2020, they consolidated to their downtown Truckee production facility, closing the doors on their tasting room. Visitors can enjoy tours, tastings, by the glass and bottle on their petite patio in front of their iconic winery in the red barn. A lawn bocce court, corn hole, and picnic area are onsite for customer enjoyment.
